cuz trouble’s where you’ve been, and I can see the kind of trouble you could get me in…”
Just had to share one more from ol’ Junior…if ever there was an heir to the throne of Ernest Tubb, JB is it. Enjoy this one folks…one that is typical of the wit, humor and excellent pickin’ of which JB is a master.
As I get ready to head out for Christmas and New Years and do some holiday traveling, I was listening to ol’ Junior Brown and was reminded of one of his earlier songs – “Highway Patrol.” I’ve had the fortune of seeing Junior Brown (along with his wife Tanya Rae who is the one strummin’ the ol’ acoustic in this video) live several times, always making sure to get up close to the stage to just stare in amazement at his pickin’ ability on his guit-steel. He is truly one of a kind.
Anyway, enjoy this and a special dedication to all my Johnny Law / Smokey Bear brothers out there…
…though our President’s wife may have only recently felt pride for our country for the first time in her life, there are those of us who believe that America is, and always has been, the greatest country the world has known.
Though our President maligns our nation at every turn, apologizing to anyone and everyone for our beliefs, who regards patriotism and love of God and country as an evil, who feels nothing other than contempt for all ideals and principles which we stand for and upon which we were founded (and has an administration that echoes such sentiments), do not be disheartened. As bad as things seem and in fact are, we remain the greatest country in the world, filled with countless individuals who believe the same, and who will not stand idly by and let our nation be led down a socialist/liberal-fascist/totalitarian road.
In this song, ol’ Waylon lets it be known that he felt the same. RIP Mr. Jennings. I’ve loved your music for about as long as I can remember and, truly, your presence is missed.
In a recent article over at TownHall.Com, my dear friend Ken Connor (from Center For A Just Society and once President of Family Research Council) comments on “Principle vs. Pragmatism” and, namely, the importance of never compromising or forsaking the principles and faith upon which our nation was founded (or, for that matter, the principles of true Conservatism) for the sake of “compromise” or the so-called “middle-ground” (of which we hear so much these days). Recall, for instance, that Reagan did not compromise with the forces of Communism; he demanded that they be torn down. Reagan did not attempt to shift his policies to “compromise” with the Left in our own country; he was able to secure others to follow him and bring others to the prinicples of solid Conservatism (as opposed to moving from Conservatism to “the center”).
Our resolve must be just as steadfast and stalwart, particularly as we face forces such as those which confront us today – forces which seek to undermine our faith and which seek to permanently destroy all upon which our nation was built.
…perhaps no other song better summarizes Southern Sundays or, for that matter, traditions and the way of life in the South; for those who aren’t Southern…perhaps you’ll never understand.
Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy a favorite song of mine from Shenandoah – “Sunday In The South” -
…I’ve been a fan of David Ball for the better part of fifteen years now – ever since his “Thinkin’ Problem” album was released. Mr. Ball has numerous outstanding songs, albums, etc., but among his most moving – and one of my favorites – is this one I’ve shared below. It’s called, “Riding With Private Malone,” and, should you be interested, it can be found on his excellent cd “Amigo.”
…Randy Travis doing perhaps among my very favorite renditions of “Amazing Grace,” as only Randy Travis can…and, particularly in Randy Travis’ case, performs this beautiful hymn, originally penned by John Newton, in a very personal way. Redemption from sin, forgiveness and deliverance from evil are but small examples of the glory and majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love which He has for us…and they are examples which resonate so irrefutably in this song.
…I’ve previously posted some items from among my very favorite bluegrass artists – Dailey & Vincent – see here. Here is the video from one of the most beautiful songs from their new album, “Brothers From Different Mothers.” It is a song called “On The Other Side,” and it is indeed an incredibly moving message of faith, of promise, of inspiration and, above all else, of God’s love. Posted by Darrin Vincent himself over at YouTube. Enjoy:
