Consumer Affairs has an interesting article this morning which, on its surface alone, evidences the furthering of the (already huge) nanny-state in which we find ourselves. The link to the story is posted at the end of this post. However, beneath the surface of the story are far more sinister and disturbing forces at play.
This time the culprits involved are The Cancer Project. The Cancer Project is an affiliate of the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine. The founder and president of both of these groups is Dr. Neal Barnard. See here. Both The Cancer Project and the PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) are radical fringe-groups, along the lines of PETA (a group that has set a record for killing animals, killing far more animals than it ever saves – see here); groups which do far more damage than good.
Dr. Barnard’s area of medical specialty is psychiatry, though he professes to be some manner of nutritional expert. I mentioned PETA above for a reason: Dr. Barnard is long affiliated with PETA, serving as one of PETA’s “medical advisors” and has long-standing, close ties to PETA, financially, asset-wise, etc. Read more about that here. In addition to being a PETA activist, Dr. Barnard is also President of The Foundation To Support Animal Protection, the legal-entity which owns most of PETA’s assets/real estate, pays most of its salaries and funnels huge sums of money back into, you might have guessed, the PCRM. Further, other representatives (e.g., Dr. Jerry Vlasak) of the PCRM have advocated “the political assisination” of doctors whose practice involve using lab animals; see here and here. Both PETA and the PCRM have long established ties to even more radical domestic terrorist organizations such as “The Animal Liberation Front” and “The Earth Liberation Front.” Read about that here, here, here and here. Dr. Jerry Vlasak, discussed above, is also a spokesperson for the Animal Liberation Front, a member of the Animal Defense League and the North American Press Office of the Animal Liberation Front. See here. More recently, Dr. Vlasak has become affiliated with the recent-fame-seeking radicals of The Sea Sheperd (of the television show “Whale Wars”). The PCRM (and, hence, The Cancer Project) connection these radical groups is fairly clear.

Rather, it is just another agenda-based effort of a fringe-group of radical hypocrites, if not outright domestic terrorists.
